ROBOTC currently has three different option types: Perpetual Licenses, 365-Day Licenses, and Building Licenses. Below is a rundown of each license type and how they operate.
Contents |
Perpetual License
Number of seats
Perpetual Licenses are available in 1 user (Single), 6 user (Team), and 30 user (Classroom) options.
Activation and Imaging
Perpetual licenses activate individual computers via the Internet (for activation help, see our Activation page). The only way to image and roll out ROBOTC using a perpetual license is to image a trial or expired trial version of ROBOTC, roll it out to individual computers, and then activate each computer manually. The reason for this is because ROBOTC creates and sends a unique hardware ID to its activation servers during the online activation process; if ROBOTC's hardware ID is imaged and rolled out to multiple computer, the original hardware ID will conflict with the hardware ID's on the imaged computers. If this happens, the imaged computers will encounter a ROBOTC security feature and the user will have to contact ROBOTC technical support.
Upgrades, Updates, and Expiration
Perpetual Licenses are ROBOTC licenses that do not expire. They include all minor updates to ROBOTC for that particular version; for example, a ROBOTC 3.0 license includes the 3.05, 3.08. 3.50, and 3.54 (as well as any future 3.x updates) free of cost. Unless specifically stated otherwise, they are not eligible for free upgrades to a newer versions of ROBOTC (for example, an upgrade from 3.x to 4.x).
Deactivation
Perpetual Licenses can be deactivated by navigating to ROBOTC's 'Manage Licenses' menu option and selecting the 'Deactivate License' option (for deactivation help, see our Activation page). The license can then be used on another, inactive ROBOTC installation.
365-Day Licenses
Number of seats
365-day licenses are available in 1 user (Single), 6 user (Team), and 30 user (Classroom) options.
Activation and Imaging
| 365-day licenses activate individual computers via the Internet (for activation help, see our Activation page). The only way to image and roll out ROBOTC using a 365-day license is to image a trial or expired trial version of ROBOTC, roll it out to individual computers, and then activate each computer manually.

365-day licenses are ROBOTC licenses that expire 365 days from the date of activation on a computer. They include all minor updates to ROBOTC for that particular version during the lifespan of the license; for example, a ROBOTC 3.0 license includes the 3.05, 3.08. 3.50, and 3.54 (as well as any future 3.x updates) free of cost. Unless specifically stated otherwise, they are not eligible for free upgrades to a newer versions of ROBOTC (for example, an upgrade from 3.x to 4.x).
Deactivation
Because a 365-day license is tied to a computer when it is activated, they cannot be deactivated by a user. If you need to request a 365-day license deactivation, contact ROBOTC's customer support.
Building Licenses
Number of seats
Building Licenses can be used on up to 100 seats per license, limited to a single school or campus building. Additional seats (in sets of 100) can be purchased.
Activation and Imaging
Building licenses do not require an internet connection to activate; instead, a special building license (which is emailed to the user after purchase) is installed to the ROBOTC directory that overrides any other license that is activated (it does not remove the other activation; ROBOTC simply finds building licenses first when looking for activation data). Because building licenses do not activate online, a copy of ROBOTC that is activated with a building license can be imaged and rolled out to other computers without any activation issues, which makes it very useful in large-scale, rapid deployment environments.
Upgrades, Updates, and Expiration
Building licenses are ROBOTC licenses that expire 365 days from the date of purchase (unless otherwise specified). They include all minor updates to ROBOTC for that particular version; for example, a ROBOTC 3.0 license includes the 3.05, 3.08. 3.50, and 3.54 (as well as any future 3.x updates) free of cost. If the building license has a maintenance plan attached it will also be eligible for major ROBOTC upgrades, such as ROBOTC 3.x to ROBOTC 4.x during the lifespan of the license.
Deactivation
To deactivate a building license activation, simply remove the building license file from the ROBOTC directory and run ROBOTC as an administrator; for more information on how to do this, see the building license installation guide.
