 Re: new EV3
That would seem to be the case. There's also .bmp versions of each .rgf image file in the retail software. Any idea if it has the native ability to display .bmp files?

 Re: new EV3
I don't have an EV3, so I wouldn't know. But the NXT 2.0 RT had a converter in the NXT-G editor that it came with; is it the same for the EV3?
On a different note, isn't RobotC 4.0 (the beta which should come out anytime now...) going to have preliminary support for EV3 programming? Or am I delusional?

 Re: new EV3
I believe the reason it's going to 4.0 directly is to add support for the EV3. IIRC they said the beta's been delayed because they haven't had EV3's to use yet.

 Re: new EV3
Well, the EV3 has been released, so... First FTC competitions/qualifiers are in November. We have a good chance of being able to use the new editor this year

 Re: new EV3
The new EV3 is not supported for this FTC season because RobotC support for it is not available yet. In fact, my understanding is that the first release of RobotC 4.x beta will not support EV3. I think it would be quite a while before we will see EV3 support for RobotC.

 Re: new EV3
Hi guys,
I have just downloaded the EV3 software in order to feel how it looks. Generally it does not look like the LabView reviews I see on youtube. It seems like a special version for LEGO.
My question is: Given that I don't have EV3 yet (will order it I guess soon), is there any way I can learn the software and activate it in a "dummy mode" or something similar. For example writing a simple program that get few variables and calculate some formula between them. I couldn't see a way I can present the results of that calculation. Can anyone help on that?
Thanks, Amit

 Re: new EV3
There is no emulation mode in the EV3 software. You can write the software but it cannot be run without a brick. You can use it with an NXT, although not all functionality is supported.

 Re: new EV3
Just to clear this up; Yes, it is a customized version for LEGO.

 Re: new EV3
It seems like a very basic version of labView. This is not the way I like to write code. So what I understand from your comments is that I just need to wait for robotC for EV3. part of you said her it will be months to come... Not too good.

 Re: new EV3
While I don't know how, it seems that you could use LabVIEW directly to program the EV3. Or, as we suggested earlier, the BrickxCC program has some support for the EV3. Or, you could wait for RobotC.

I've got my EV3 now. Ready to test whatever needs to be tested!

 Re: new EV3
Few more basic questions:
1. in the retail version I see there is a place for 6 AA batteries, and there is a plug for charging. Is there a charger that comes with the device? Or is there a unique battery that need to be used?
2. Is there a way to send data from the robot back to the PC (data that is gathered by the robot). For example to collect into an excel spreadsheet?
Thanks, Amit
