Post HiTechnic IRLink range
Does anyone know what the range of the HiTechnic IRLink should be? What range do you get in your projects?

I am only getting about 1-2m, fresh batteries in everything, soft room lighting, IRLink pointed directly at the PF receiver. By comparison the Lego PF remote control easily covers 5-10m in a variety of light conditions, pointing in nearly any direction. Results the same even testing with the IRLink example provided with Xander's Driver Suite.

I have emailed HiTechnic to ask, but was interested in some other real world use.

Thanks

You are getting 1-2 meters? Lucky you! I usually get 10, or maybe 30cm! The range is indeed awful.

Well, we have special air in Moscow that is more finely tuned to carrying all sorts of special rays and things! So I read on the Interweb anyway.

I am pretty disappointed. I'm sure it works great if you want to interface a NXT to PF within a robot, but that is not what I was expected. I like HiTechnic products, but I really wish they put spec sheets on their site.

PS sorry mods, I didn't see the dedicated forum for 3rd party sensors until just now, even though it is at the top or the page and in bright red :-/

Don't worry about it, we'll let it slide this time. Next time however...THE COMFY CHAIR!
