Does anyone know of, or use, an activity at the beginning of the school year that helps to asses what they students have retained, and where they currently are? Thanks,

I think we might have something that is perfect for you. Check out CS2N.org, there are quizzes on there that follow directly along with the curriculum (but they are works in progress and are subject to modification; we hope to have them nailed down by the start of the school year). The site is 'an online destination for students and teachers where they can find engaging activities designed to teach students of all ages on how to program robots, animations, web pages, and games.'

Basically, it's being developed to supplement existing robotics educational tools and to enhance the overall experience.
