 firmware download unavailable
Hi, The RobotC firmware install is grayed out and we can't install it onto our NXT brick. (See image). We're wondering what causes this state? Here's some clues for a debug: 1./ We downloaded the trial version. 2./ My 11 year initiated a firmware install, and then interrupted it, leaving the brick in a bad state. 3./ Today (some months after the trial expired) we bought a license. 4./ I've installed the license, and am ready to install the robotC firmware. I'm hoping there's some brute force way to do the firmware install that will work even for bricks in a bad state. Any ideas? Thanks!

 Re: firmware download unavailable
You can force the brick into SAMBA mode (firmware download mode) by pressing and holding the reset button for about 5 seconds. You should hear a soft ticking sound from the brick. Then hook it up the computer and after the device (NXT Firmware Mode or something to that effect) has loaded, you can just upload the firmware through ROBOTC. Check page 63 of this guide to see how to reset your NXT: http://cache.lego.com/downloads/educati ... US_low.pdf- Xander

 Re: firmware download unavailable
Update: So we got the brick back in a good state by reinstalling the Lego firmware via the Lego NXT software. Unfortunately the RobotC software still can't see the brick to download the firmware. I'm wondering if this is related to the fact that the entire "Download Firmware" widget disappeared from the "Robot" menu when our trial license expired? Anyways. Just bought a perpetual license. Would like to be able to use it... Thanks!

Is NXT-G running while you are trying to do this? If you are, close it and restart ROBOTC.

 Re: firmware download unavailable
No Dice! Menu remains gray.
Just an FYI - it's the latest cut of robotC. Just downloaded it today.
I have to leave this for a few hours - but I'm going to try removing and re-installing the RobotC software later today. Hopefully that clears whatever state it's in that makes the firmware install disabled.
All other advice appreciated.
Thanks!

Did you submit a ticket to support@robotc.net? I'm about to go to bed (am in Europe), so I won't be back for at least 10-12 hours. - Xander

Yep. The uninstall + delete and reinstall. Didn't fix it. My license is still found - so I'm guessing I didn't clean as well as I could have. Will seek further advice on that one with a support ticket as suggested.
Thanks!

 Re: firmware download unavailable
Can you go under the Robot menu and check the "Compiler Target" setting? Make sure it's set to "Physical Robot" and not "Virtual". Let me know
