 Sound for VEX Cortex?
Does anyone know how to produce sound on a VEX/Cortex system. I have found some examples, but they didn't work for me. Do you just plug a speaker into motor port 1? I can't find the directory where the.wav files are stored. Any ideas?
Thanks

Yes, you would need to plug a speaker into motor port 1. EDIT: Sorry, I didn't read the cortex part. Even though it was part of the title.

 Re: Sound for VEX Cortex?
Motor Port 1 is used on the VEX PIC, but the Cortex actually has a dedicated "SP" port at the end of the Digital bank.
VEX is releasing their own speaker relatively soon, but you can hook up a piezoelectric speaker to make use of the functionality.

 Re: Sound for VEX Cortex?
Thanks for telling me about the speaker output port. Where are the sound files stored? How can I add my own sound files? Where do you find information on this stuff? I have been searching with no luck. Thanks again.

 Re: Sound for VEX Cortex?
We'll be releasing documentation when VEX releases their official speaker. Currently there is no directory of sound files.
In ROBOTC, if you switch your Window > Menu Level to "Expert" you'll see a Sound category with the possible commands. The "PlaySound()" command allows you to play sounds predefined in the Cortex firmware - "soundBeepBeep, soundBlip, soundDownwardTones, soundException, soundFastUpwardTones, soundLowBuzz, soundLowBuzzShort, soundShortBlip, soundUpwardTones" are their names. The "PlayTone()" command allows you to specify a frequency and duration to play.

 Re: Sound for VEX Cortex?
Can you tell me what pins to use for a simple two wire speaker?
Thanks, Bill

 Re: Sound for VEX Cortex?
I haven't tried any 2-wire speakers to know how well/if they'd work. Here's a link to the Cortex schematic that would let you use the appropriate ports, though: http://www.education.rec.ri.cmu.edu/pro ... ematic.pdf
