I've had my NXT for 1 year and have taken extremely good care of it. However, back in fall 2012, I noticed the NXT would suddenly stop playing tones and sounds (but mainly tones) or fuzz them up. Turning off the NXT does not fix it and it only starts after many tones have been played. Battery power is of no consequence. All other things work fine, but this is troubling me. Could you help me?

Does it need to be repaired/replaced?
Is this common?
Will I pay for repairing?
Can I fix this?
Is this just a ROBOTC thing?

I really, really don't want to take apart my NXT on my own. All help will be greatly appreciated!

Who did you buy the NXT from? LEGO Education or someone else? We've found that LEGO Education stands behind the NXTs they sell for quite a while.

Does the problem occur when you use NXT-G?

It does sound like a speaker problem to me. This has happened to one of my NXTs. I just replaced the speaker with one of equivalent ohms and wattage.

I think I got it from amazon. Also, it only happens on volume 3 or 4, so really I can live with it, I just don't want to. The problem never happened in NXT-G, but of course my NXT was younger then :-)
