I just purchased the LEGOS RVW 4. software and I can really see the potential for my students. Last year, we used the 3.62 version and when I try to switch the RVW compiler target to the physical robot, the option is grayed out. It even looks as though the virtual world option is grayed out too. Can I not use a physical robot with RVW? Hopefully, it is something I am doing wrong. Thank you.

Do you have a license for ROBOTC as well, or just a license for virtual worlds? You need both a ROBOTC and a Virtual Worlds license in order to be able to use the Virtual Worlds software.

Yes, we have a perpetual license for RobotC.

I'm getting a little confused between versions here, so I just want to clarify here. You have a perpetual license for what version of ROBOTC? And you have a license for what version of RVW? And you are trying to run the software for which version of ROBOTC?

I have a perpetual license for RobotC 3.62 and just purchased a license for RVW 4.26 I guess what I am asking is whether I can have the students create programs in the RVW, test them and then download the file to the physical robot? I created a simple program last night and tested it in the virtual environment. When I connected the LEGO's NXT to the computer to download the file, I was unable to switch the complier target to the physical robot.

You should be able to do both. It's working fine for me, running ROBOTC and RVW 3.62, both of them off of 4.x licenses. Are you trying to use the 4.26 software? Because I just did a test with activating 4.26 with only a RVW license and not a ROBOTC license, and I got the behavior you are describing, with all the compiler options being grayed out.
Unfortunately, ROBOTC perpetual licenses only work for the version that you purchased them for, and not later versions. So your 3.x perpetual license only lets you use the 3.62 software, not the 4.26. So, there's two things you can do. You can get a ROBOTC 4.x license so you can use the 4.26 software, or you can use your 4.x Virtual Worlds license to activate Virtual Worlds in 3.62.
