Post subject:  USB problem with Windows 7

I am using RobotC version 2.25 to connect with the Vex Cortex. I have the software installed on a borrowed laptop which has Windows XP as the OS. Everything works on this laptop. The controller and joystick firmware was downloaded from this laptop. I have message tracing enabled and have never had a problem with downloading with this laptop. I am using the A to A cable for all downloads.

Our Best team finally was able to purchase a laptop for programming. This laptop has Windows 7 installed. I loaded RobotC version 2.25 on this laptop. I set everything up on the Windows 7 laptop the same as on the XP laptop. Every time I try to download I get a message telling me that it does not detect the Vex Cortex. I always make sure to power the Vex down before plugging the USB A to A cable in on the Win 7 laptop and follow all of the same steps as on the XP laptop.

Is this possibly a USB driver problem with Windows 7? I would really like to get this laptop running so I can return the other laptop.

Thanks
Eric

Hi Eric -

It sounds like you're following the right steps, but there's two things to try:
- Update ROBOTC to version 2.30. There are several communication improvements in this version: http://www.robotc.net/download/cortex/
- Make sure you have administrator privileges. We've seen some issues during the firmware download process with locked down computers.

Ok I will give that a try. However, I won't have a chance to try this until Saturday.

We just had our local competition this past weekend and I was reluctant to upgrade before now since everything was working. We finished 4th overall and are going to a regional competition in a few weeks. We have a bit of breathing room right now so I will try the upgrade and let you know if it corrects the problem.

Thanks
Eric
