Post Download firmware
I just recently installed the robot c license, and Robot C 4.0. I can't find the download function under robot. AlsoI do not understant the virtual world vs the physical robot mode. PLEASE HELP!!!!!

Are you trying to program a cortex plugged into your computer or one being simulated on your computer? If its connected to your computer chose physical robot, but if you are simulating one use virtual worlds.

The download should be here, but you also could try hitting F5.

There are two main types of compiling options with ROBOTC; downloading the code to a physical robot (ROBOTC license) and downloading the code to a Virtual Worlds robot (Virtual Worlds license). Both types of licenses use the same ROBOTC program and each license 'unlocks' the ability to program to its respective robot. For example:

- A "ROBOTC for Cortex and PIC 3.0" license allows you to download your ROBOTC code to a physical Cortex or PIC robot (using a ROBOTC 3.x installation)
- A "ROBOTC Virtual Worlds for Cortex and PIC 3.0" license allows you to download your ROBOTC code to a Virtual Worlds robot (using a ROBOTC 3.x installation)
- A "ROBOTC for VEX Robotics 4.0" license allows you to download your ROBOTC code to a physical Cortex or IQ robot (using a ROBOTC 4.x installation).

In a nutshell, the version number (3.x, 4.x, etc) determines which version of the software you will need to have installed on your computer; you can find all of the available installers for ROBOTC 2.x to 3.x on our downloads page ( The name of the license (ROBOTC or ROBOTC Virtual Worlds) determines where the code can be compiled to.

In this particular case, you may have the incorrect license type (ROBOTC when you want ROBOTC Virtual Worlds, or vice versa), you may be using the wrong version number (4.x instead of 3.x), or you the license may not be activated.

First, check to see which version of ROBOTC you have installed (3.x or 4.x) by navigating to the 'Help -> About ROBOTC' menu option in ROBOTC. The version number will be in the bottom left corner of the popup window that appears. Please let us know which version you are using.

Next, check to make sure the installed version of ROBOTC matches your license version and, if not, install the correct numbered version from our downloads page:

Finally, once the installed ROBOTC version matches your license version, you will need to activate your license using your license ID and password. Instructions on how to do so can be found here: ... ate_Online
