We have a link that explains the if-else statements in detail here: http://www.education.rec.ri.cmu.edu/pro ... f_else.pdf

Also, I recommended that Mr. Dischner point you toward these three videos, as they address the exact problem you're experiencing:
1: http://www.education.rec.ri.cmu.edu/products/teaching_robotc_cortex/remote_control/buttons/control1/control1.html
2: http://www.education.rec.ri.cmu.edu/products/teaching_robotc_cortex/remote_control/buttons/control2/control2.html
3: http://www.education.rec.ri.cmu.edu/products/teaching_robotc_cortex/remote_control/buttons/control3/control3.html

All three videos come from the Remote Control > Buttons Section of the VEX Cortex Video Trainer: http://www.education.rec.ri.cmu.edu/products/teaching_robotc_cortex/index.html
