Post Downloading program without programming kit
Basicly, our group is programming a sequence for the robot to be controlled by joystick. But we got a problem that the joystick does not work after downloading our program. We do not currently have a programming kit but we will get them in the future (as we've spent a lot of budget for the competition kits and such stuff.)

The joystick and cortex are all up to date, and all the batteries are fully charged. We also tried on multiple computers, joysticks, and cortexes in case of hardware problems. Firstly, we connect the robot and laptop with A-to-A cable and downloaded the program (Download method was set to "Download using Vexnet or USB"). It works totally fine when tethered to the computer. However, when we switch to the code programmed for joystick control, download it again, and connect the robot to a joystick, it did not work at all. Doesn't matter if it is our code or the sample code provided by ROBOTC, it never works.

So I'm guessing it's something to do with the way we download it? Do we have to use a programming kit?

We really need this information as we are preparing for a qualifier for "Nothing but Net" and we truly appreciate your help.

If you connect the joystick and the robot using the A to A cable does the joystick code work? If not can you attach the code you were using to test? (Use the code tags)

Did you have a similar problem to ours? viewtopic.php?f=11&t=12537

We were having what seems to be the same problem, so we switched to the competition template and put our code into the "usercontrol" task, and then it worked when we downloaded our code. Are you using the default task ("main")?

@joshuav

Thanks for your valid advice!!!
We switched to competition mode and it worked!
