If you have a licensed copy of RobotC, you can test the beta already. Just go to "Help->Manage Licenses->Add License->Product: ROBOTC for LEGO MINDSTORMS 4.x".

I do not understand what you were saying. The latest download at robotc.net is RobotC 3.62. My understanding is that this is not 4.0 beta. By "adding a 4.0 license" doesn't magically change 3.62 to 4.0. In addition, how do you obtain a 4.0 license before it's available? Also, it is my understanding that the initial release of 4.0 beta will not have support for EV3. So even if you get your hands on one, it will not allow you to program the EV3.

Does anybody have an update on the expected release date for a RobotC version with EV3 support? Days? Weeks? Months? 2014? later?

We have an intro robotics class with 8 EV3 kits that will need to start some programming projects soon. If RobotC will support the EV3 by the end of the year, then we might wait for that Otherwise we'll have to get by without I guess...

I don't have the official answer but my impression is that it will take a while so I think you should plan without it.

A little Bird told you? :? My best guess is that if they haven't said so, it will.

Its obviously pointless posting since *there has been no "official" response but, what was the purpose of announcing v4.0 in May if its going to be a year before its released. Announcing a release at the beginning of a long development cycle - rather than near the release date - is no way to make satisfied customers. Especially considering the licensing scheme employed here.

Newbie, already looking for other options...

edited to correct typo: *there

It was going to be released last month, but I think the word is that the devs got delayed because they couldn't get their hands on an EV3 to test things with.

Just a bit disappointing that the FAQ from Lego indicates that EV3 is already supported by robotC... guess that gaffe is on Lego Group.

Hello,

We just bought an EV3 last week, and we're waiting now a version of ROBOTC that we can test and use with it.

We will participate next year (in may 2014) to the French Cup of Robotic (http://www.eurobot.org/). So I hope we can have compatible version of RobotC with the EV3 this year.

Thanks in advance,
Best Regards,
Christophe.

Yeah, haven't had any updates on this in a while. Maybe I'm just getting spoiled by the weekly dev notes for KSP. :) I seem to recall late november being tossed around as a possibility--that's coming up soon.

are you sure? I honestly doubt that and I don't see a way that it might work.
AFAIK BCC can target the ev3 brick (currently) only by gpp C (CSLite) - not NXC !! - generating genuine Linux executables.

On the other hand, NXC is based upon NBC as an intermediate asm-like code which is compiled to bytecode for the Lego NXT VM, i.e. a bytecode interpreter. There isn't such a thing yet for the Lego bytecode interpreter running on the EV3, and of course the code for both VMs are completely different from each other.

We also use Lego for eurobot competition, but this year we will stay with NXT due to the lack of EV3 support by RobotC.

Good luck for your team, at the cup we will be attentive at teams whose use EV3
