My kids want to build a lego robot that can use the color sensor to distinguish between light blue, dark blue, purple, turquoise or other similar shades in a color family. Can the sensor be programmed to distinguish between 3 or so shades like these listed or is it not sensitive enough. I saw somewhere that it looked like it read approx 12 variations of the colors but can't really tell. They are doing a science fair project and still in the formulation of their plan stage. They also would like to know ideas on how to build it and some instructions if possible. They want the robot to walk or role to a colored cube or colored panel and read it and tell the color. Is this realistic? Thanks.

It would be possible if you were to use the raw RGB values and convert them to HSV. It would not be a trivial bit of programming by any means. How good are your programming skills? Thank you so much - I just purchased the more sensitive sensor. This should allow them to more easily test the efficiency of the sensor's color variance efficiency. They have extremely limited programming knowledge but are studying a little bit now. I will probably have other questions for you as they begin assembly and programming because I am sure there will be some bugs along the way.
