Hi Richard,

Can you please give us a list of some of the things you have tried?

Are the batteries fresh?
Did you install the NXT drivers?
Did you manage to upload the firmware?
Are you using USB or BT to upload the programs?

Thanks,
Xander

Hi Xander,
I am using a USB connection.
I have only bee trying to download basic programs, such as moving forward, poin turns, and going backwards.
My problem comes from me trying to download the firmware.
yes i have installed the NXT drivers, and the batteries are only 4-5 days old.

Thanks,
richard

Sounds like you don't have the USB driver installed. Reinstall the latest USB driver for the NXT: http://www.robotc.net/content/lego_down ... driver.zip

Hi tfriez,
I redownloaded the driver from the link you gave, but the computer still doesnt recognize that the USB is connected, I even restarted the computer after downloading it and that didnt work either. By the way, does it matter that im only using the trial version? I ask this because my teacher downloaded the disk onto a computer at my school and he said that the disk can only be downloaded once because of a licence agreement.

It should not matter whether you are using the trial product or a licensed version. It is a bit strange that you are able to download firmware but not to update programs as they both use a common file -- "fantom.dll" -- for communications to the NXT.

Once you have your NXT downloaded with firmware and attached via USB, go into the Windows "Device Manager" control panel. You should see a entry for "LEGO Devices" and when you expand it then you should see a device labelled "LGEGO MINDSTORMS NXT". If you do then this would indicate that the device drivers are properly installed and configured. If instead you see some kind of "Unknown Device" or a device with a yellow triangle "warning" icon agaiinst it then in indicates that the drivers are not installed.

Please report this configuration and reply. For faster response, send me a direct email at dickswan@sbcglobal.net.

Hi Mr. Swan,
You must have misundstood me, I am not able to download firmware. The firmware window says "No NXT bricks could be opened". I also dont have the robot with me, it is at my friends house until my winter break is over (Jan. 5). I am therefore not able to tell you what my 'Windows "Device Manager" control panel' reads.
