Failed to launch help in 2.01
Hello, Downloaded and installed 2.01. When I click on "RobotC Help" I get an error message "Failed to launch help." Any idea how I get the help to work?
Thanks, Dave

Hi Dave, did you ever get this working? Did you try reinstalling ROBOTC in case something went wrong during installation?

Re: Failed to launch help in 2.01
Hello, No, I never have got it to work. I tried uninstalling and resinstalling (from a new download) this evening. Same as before. "Failed to launch help" when clicking help or pressing F1.
Any ideas?
Dave

Re: Failed to launch help in 2.01
How are you getting to the help menu to get the error? There are a few "help" files:
1) Double clicking the code templates 2) Going to the Help Menu 3) Pressing F1
I just want to see how to reproduce it.

Re: Failed to launch help in 2.01
Pressing F1 or selecting "RobotC Help" from the help menu produces the error. The five other choices on the Help menu work fine. I do not know what the "code templates" are or where they are located.
The function library works.

Re: Failed to launch help in 2.01
Still get the "failed to launch help" message. The RobotC Documentation folder contains a html help document. Opening the document gives a window that says: ROBOTC Help This is a placeholder until Tim gets the file written.
Could this be the root of my problem?

Re: Failed to launch help in 2.01
That's really strange. I know the guys updated that a while ago when 2.01 was released. They are going to push another release within a week to fix a few issues, this should be one of them. Just to make sure I know what's happening.. When I go to Help, ROBOTC Help.. you don't get this window, right?:

Re: Failed to launch help in 2.01
Did you already try uninstalling, downloading 2.01 again, and installing?
I'm curious if the installation didn't completely go correctly because the CHM help files should have been installed with 2.01.

Re: Failed to launch help in 2.01
Hi, Yes. On Feb 5th a fresh download, uninstall, and install was done. Still get the error message when trying to open help. Am I the only one with this problem? I wonder what could be unique about my system.
Any ideas on what to try next?
Thanks for the help, Dave

Re: Failed to launch help in 2.01
Dave, Try the following: - delete all registry values pertaining to ROBOTC through the View menu
- uninstall ROBOTC
- go to the Program Files (or the equivalent if you are on a 64bit machine) directory and make sure that the ROBOTC directory is completely gone, remove it manually if it is not
- install ROBOTC
Regards, Xander

Re: Failed to launch help in 2.01
Hi, I did the 4 steps and still get the failed to launch error message when trying to open help. The first step was not that familiar to me, so I did a "regedit" and deleted any RobotC stuff I cound find. -This step may have been what I did wrong. Let me know if there is a better way to do this step. -I didn't know which "view menu" the last repsonse referred to.
I deleted all the folders from the explorer. Downloaded a fresh copy of RobotC and installed it.
There still must have been some old RobotC stuff in my system becuse after reinstalling it found my name and license number (I was getting a little worried about that).
Any ideas where I went wrong or what to try next?
Dave

Re: Failed to launch help in 2.01
I imagine mightor could email you the help files/folder. Then you would have them for sure, and if it still didn't work, then you know that something is seriously wrong with your PC.
